Principal's Message

Welcome to the Meadow Drive website!

Meadow Drive School is one of Mineola’s two early childhood schools. We serve over 350 diverse students in Pre-K through Grade 2!

Through a focus on kindness, teamwork and lifelong learning, we provide child-centered instruction with opportunities for enrichment and support throughout each day. We encourage our young learners to take risks, solve problems, and collaborate as they learn. Every learner tracks their progress and growth through a standards-aligned Badge Book year after year. All of our work centers around the concept of building a growth mindset in our learners, and that even the youngest learners are capable of growing, learning and achieving their goals and dreams. Learners have a packed schedule each day that includes reading, writing, mathematics, art, music, physical education, library, coding, STEAM (science through technology, engineering, art, and math), and time in our learning garden. Each  of our learners receives a 1:1 iPad to support the practice of foundational skills.  We are proud of the amazing accomplishments of our young learners!

Apple Distinguished Schools

Apple Distinguished School Recognized by Apple as a distinguisehd school for continuous innovation in learning, teaching, and the school environment

Recognized by Apple as a distinguished school for continuous innovation in learning, teaching, and the school environment. Meadow Drive School has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2022-2025. Our learners understand what they need to do to grow and work in partnership with their teachers to determine how they will get there. With 1:1 iPad, learners develop learning styles through opportunities to Apple Distinguished School badgeresearch, explore and share.

For example, learners design presentations about research in Keynote, access applications to practice skills through QR and Camera, use Siri to help understand new vocabulary and facts, AirDrop to collaborate between iPads, practice reading skills with Lexia, engage in interactive learning games with Osmo, and use iPods with VR technology to learn about distant locations around the world.

We have re-imagined report cards and assessments to support learners to be agents of their growth through our innovative, standards-based Badge Books. Rather than earning grades, learners earn badges, which signify deep understanding of a particular skill or concept. Analyzing data from the Badge Books, teachers redesign instruction and learners develop plans to reach their learning targets and goals. Using Apple technology, such as Camera, Calculator, Notes and Keynote, learners earn their badges throughout the year. In addition, teachers and staff are part of the learning at Meadow Drive. Faculty use iPad to analyze data, share curriculum and lesson plans, and to enhance their practice through personalized professional development.

Mineola High School welcomed kindergartners from Meadow Drive and Hampton Street schools for a special holiday activity that saw high school juniors collaborating with some of the district’s littlest learners on a fun and festive project.

The students worked together in the high school Fab Lab to design and construct wooden snowmen. Starting with a plain piece of wood, which was custom cut to the height of each kindergartner, they decorated and personalized each one with an array of colorful seasonal accoutrements, including hats, bows and buttons, as well as black finger paint for their eyes, nose and mouth.

The kindergartners were proud to work and learn alongside on the older students and were looking forward to introducing their new snowman friends to their families.

Apple Distinguished School District

Apple Distinguished School District logo thumbnail262064

The district is #MineolaProud to announce that we have been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School District.

Mineola is one of only 18 districts worldwide to be recognized with this designation.

School districts are selected for this distinction based on their commitment to continuous innovation in education across all schools in the system, and using Apple products to inspire, imagine, and impact teaching and learning districtwide.

Apple Distinguished Schools are centers of leadership and educational excellence, with a clear vision for how technology-rich environments support learning goals. In Apple Distinguished Schools, forward-thinking leaders and their communities work to inspire, imagine, and impact teaching and learning, and they have documented results of academic accomplishments.

Schools all over the world are using iPad and Mac to transform learning. As teachers incorporate technology into their lessons, they empower students to lead, learn, and thrive, to discover new opportunities, and to make their world a better place.

We share this honor with every teacher, administrator, learner and member of the Mineola school community who remain focused every day on achieving excellence and setting the standard for the future of education.
