At the June 18 meeting, the Board of Education was proud to honor learners from throughout the district for their accomplishments in the areas of academics, robotics, computer science, winter guard and art.

Hundreds of parents and supporters turned out for the final BOE meeting of the school year to show their support for these exceptional students.

We also congratulate two of our Board members, Stacey DeCillis and Patrick Talty, who were each presented Board Excellence Awards by the New York State School Boards Association.

The district is #MineolaProud to congratulate instructional leader Steven Benner on being honored with the NASTAR award by Nassau BOCES and the Nassau Association of School Technologists. The NASTAR award to honors individuals for innovation and exemplary technology leadership in their school district and beyond.

Mr. Benner is a key member of the Mineola Middle School community, serving as an educator, instructional leader and a passionate technology innovator. He adeptly integrates cutting-edge technology into the classroom, transforming how students and teachers engage in meaningful learning.

A key aspect of Mr. Benner’s leadership is how he leads the “tech charge,” troubleshooting tech issues, introducing new ideas and guiding effective technology use by students and teachers. He regularly collaborates with educators and district leaders to create a dynamic tech strategy, shaping a tech-forward culture at the school.

Through this innovative approach, Mr. Benner is preparing students for success in the digital age and showcasing technology as a powerful tool for agency.

Congratulations to MHS juniors Gabrielle Parrado and Kaitlyn Consalvo on being selected as recipients of the Students Building Bridges Award by the Jewish Community Relations Council of Long Island.

This honor recognizes students for their efforts to create a more civil society by volunteering, building ties across different communities and working on intergenerational projects.

Gabrielle and Kaitlyn were recognized with citations from elected officials and a certificate of achievement during the Nassau County Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemoration at Adelphi University on May 7.

The district is #MineolaProud to recognize Gabrielle and Kaitlyn, and we applaud them for their tireless dedication to community service, for spreading kindness and supporting their peers and those in need.
